Which file formats we accept

We accept standard CAD formats: STEP, IGES, and 2D drawings in PDF or DWG. The best combination is a 3D model (for pricing the geometry) plus a dimensioned 2D drawing with tolerances (for pricing accuracy). A 3D file alone, without dimensioning, does not show which surfaces are critical — and those are exactly what most affects the price.

What a technical drawing must include

Beyond the geometry itself, the drawing should clearly state: the material and its standard designation, required dimensional and geometric tolerances, surface roughness where it matters, and any additional requirements — heat treatment, protective coatings, thread callouts. The fewer assumptions we have to make, the faster and more accurate the quote.

Dimensional tolerances — what to watch for

Not every dimension needs the same precision. Tightening tolerances where it is not functionally necessary raises cost without real benefit — a tighter tolerance means more machine time and more frequent quality checks. Good practice: mark tight tolerances only on dimensions that are actually critical for fit or mating with other parts, and leave the rest on general tolerance.

Missing material information, conflicting dimensions between the 2D drawing and the 3D model, missing units (mm or inches), and no information about the required quantity — these are the most common reasons we have to come back with a question instead of preparing an offer right away.
